| Requirements: | A Windows-based or Macintosh computer that meets manufacturers' requirements for required software in the program. Access to the Internet. High-speed access is recommended, and is required when taking a proctored final exam (see details on proctored exams below). Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks CS4 or CS5 software. Read Adobe's system requirements for the Web Premium suite. The HTML and CSS I course will provide information to help you meet this requirement if you have not already. Basic drawing supplies including pencils, charcoal, newsprint, and sketch paper. Course program
First-year studies introduce the visual design fundamentals and software that are essential to any Web or print medium including color, typography, composition, digital imaging, and illustration. You will also learn HTML and CSS for Web publishing (including HTML5 and CSS3), digital photography, and drawing. First-year studies also build your general education background.
General education courses develop your critical thinking and written communication skills as well as a foundation in psychology, business, computer technology, writing, and art history. Building a foundation for lifelong learning is essential to the online design college experience, and general education concepts play an important role as you build your Web design skills.
Second-year Web Design students take a deeper look at the technologies and visual design approaches that define professionals in the Web design industry. Popular tools including Dreamweaver, Flash, and JavaScript are explored alongside essential topics such as accessibility standards, CSS layouts, and Internet marketing. Web Design majors develop a professional design process for building a Web site, from concept to launch.
Students complete the Web Design program with studies in design business and portfolio building as well as a live online portfolio review and a capstone project.
